Temple History
The origins of the Khatu Shyam Ji Temple trace back to the Mahabharata era. Barbarik, the grandson of Bhima and son of Ghatotkacha, offered his head to Lord Krishna as the ultimate sacrifice before the Kurukshetra war. Pleased with his devotion, Krishna blessed him with the boon that he would be worshipped in the age of Kaliyuga by Krishna's own name — Shyam.
Centuries later, his sacred head is believed to have emerged in Khatu village, Rajasthan, where the present-day temple stands. The shrine has been a beacon of faith for generations, drawing millions of devotees who chant "Hare Ka Sahara, Baba Shyam Hamara".
